Obry
Keep screenshots and text close at hand as floating cards controlled by trackpad gestures.
Obry is a macOS menu-bar app that turns parts of your screen into floating cards for temporary reference. Capture a region, window, or scrolling page, keep it above other windows, then flick the card to a screen edge when you need the space back. Unlike a conventional screenshot pin, the card stays tucked away until you bring it back.
Capture and work with cards
- Gesture-based docking: Throw a card toward any screen edge with a two-finger swipe, pinch to resize it, or shake it to turn the capture into a draggable file.
- Screenshots and scrolling captures: Select a screen region or window, or capture content longer than one screen.
- Editable text cards: On-device OCR (text recognition) extracts words from a capture so you can edit, format, copy, or drag them into another app.
- Recents and pinning: Reopen earlier captures, pin cards worth keeping, and set automatic cleanup for temporary ones. The default retention period is seven days.
- Card controls: Adjust card colors and opacity, or make a locked card click-through.
- Apple Notes integration: Send text to Apple Notes and keep subsequent edits synchronized in both directions for notes created by Obry.
Privacy, compatibility, and cost
According to its developer, captures, card data, and text recognition stay on your Mac; files are stored in ~/Pictures/Obry/ by default. Screen Recording permission is required, while Apple Notes syncing requires separate Automation permission. Obry needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later and is designed around trackpad gestures. Its universal build is tested on Apple Silicon; the developer has not tested Intel Macs.
The full app has a 14-day free trial without payment details. After that, a $12 one-time license covers up to three of your own Macs, with updates included and no subscription.
